Atlas Underlayment & Deck Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible underlayment and decking materials across Fort Worth, with most deck repairs running $400 to $1,800 installed depending on how many sheets need replacing and whether the underlayment has to come off with them. Most jobs are done in a single day once we’ve got eyes on the damage. You usually discover the problem the hard way: a soft spot near a valley, a ceiling stain that showed up after a spring storm, or shingles that started lifting because the deck beneath them no longer holds a nail.

If you own a home in Fort Worth with an Atlas roof system, this page will walk you through exactly what fails, what it costs to fix here, and whether you should touch it yourself. Short version: if the deck is soft, don’t.
We’re an independent Fort Worth roofing contractor. We install and repair Atlas products daily, but we’re not affiliated with Atlas Roofing Corporation.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To
The underlayment and deck repair work we do applies to the full Atlas shingle line installed across Fort Worth: Pinnacle Pristine, Pinnacle Impact, StormMaster Shake, StormMaster Slate, and the newer Atlas GlassMaster line. The decking underneath doesn’t care what shingle sits on top of it, but the underlayment choice does, and that’s where Atlas-specific compatibility matters.
Atlas roof systems are engineered to work with either Atlas WeatherMaster synthetic underlayment or a 30-lb felt equivalent. If a previous contractor installed a bargain 15-lb felt over your deck, that’s a lifespan problem waiting to surface. The two-layer Atlas system (WeatherMaster plus the shingle) is the only configuration we’ll warranty. When we open a roof in Fort Worth and find mismatched underlayment, we photograph it and show you before replacing anything.
The decking itself is typically CDX plywood or OSB, usually 7/16″ or 1/2″ thick, depending on the year your home was built. Older Fort Worth homes from the 1980s and earlier often have 1/2″ plywood at 24″ rafter spacing, which is a known flex point. We see more deck failure in those homes than in anything built after 2000.
If the label is still legible on the underside of the decking, it’ll tell you the grade and thickness. If not, we measure from the attic side before we quote anything.

Signs Your Atlas Underlayment & Deck Repair Is Failing
- Spongy spots when you walk the roof. If the deck gives underfoot, the wood has lost its structural integrity. This is not a nail-pop problem. The deck is rotting and needs replacement.
- Ceiling stains or water trails in your attic after a Fort Worth storm. Underlayment is the last line of defense before water reaches the deck. If you’re seeing interior stains, the underlayment failed first, then the deck soaked it up.
- Shingles lifting at the edges or sliding out of place. Nails hold shingles by biting into the deck. Once the deck is soft or water-damaged, nails back out and shingles slip. The shingle didn’t fail; the deck underneath did.
- Mold or mildew smell in the attic that gets worse after rain. Trapped moisture in decking means the wood is holding water. Fort Worth humidity keeps it from drying out on its own.
- Sagging between rafters, visible from inside the attic. This means the deck spacing exceeds what the board thickness can support, or the board has lost enough strength to deflect. Either way, it won’t get better.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, deck repair pricing follows a simple pattern. A single sheet of 4×8 decking, replaced and re-secured to existing rafters, runs $400 to $650 installed. That includes cutting out the old sheet, installing new CDX plywood to code, H-clips at panel edges, and re-fastening everything to the existing truss or rafter system. Replacement underlayment over the repaired area runs $90 to $180 per square (100 square feet), depending on whether you go with Atlas WeatherMaster synthetic or a 30-lb felt.
Here’s what most Fort Worth jobs look like in line-item form:

Typical Deck Repair Pricing in Fort Worth
| Scope | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| 1-2 sheets of decking, local repair | $400 – $1,100 |
| 3-6 sheets, multiple locations | $1,100 – $2,400 |
| Underlayment only, whole roof (labor + material) | $1,800 – $3,600 |
| Deck + underlayment replacement, full re-deck | $4,500 – $9,500 |
Every quote includes a written line-item price before we start, and the number on the page is the number on the invoice. No change orders unless you ask us to expand the scope after we open things up, and then we walk you through it before anything changes.
The repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the fix fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, including the second visit.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: get into the attic with a flashlight and look for water stains, dark spots, or daylight showing through the deck. That gives you a starting point for our conversation. You can also check the roof from the ground for curling, lifting, or missing shingles.
What you shouldn’t do: tear off shingles to inspect the deck yourself. A Fort Worth roof in July is hot enough to cause second-degree burns, and once you break the shingle seal, you’ve created a new leak that didn’t exist before. Deck repair also involves removing and reinstalling fasteners at structural points. If you miss a rafter, you learn about it the next time a storm rolls through and the shingles take flight.
If the deck is soft enough to feel from inside the attic, call (682) 730-3548. We’ll inspect it, tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a full re-deck, and put everything in writing before any work starts. Dylan Pace has spent two decades in Texas catching deck failures before they turn into four-figure water problems. Put it in writing or don’t bother saying it.
FAQs
Atlas WeatherMaster synthetic underlayment is rated to last the life of the shingle system when properly installed, typically 25 to 30 years in Fort Worth. Decking lasts as long as it stays dry. The variable here is Texas weather: hail, wind-driven rain, and our long hot summers will find any gap in the underlayment and rot the deck beneath it years before the shingles show wear. Call (682) 730-3548 if you want us to inspect your deck before a small repair becomes a full replacement.
Underlayment can sometimes be patched if the area is small and the deck underneath is sound, but patching Atlas two-layer systems risks creating a seam that catches wind. Decking generally can’t be repaired; a soft or rotted sheet needs to come out and a new one go in. Call (682) 730-3548 and we’ll tell you which one applies to your roof after we look at it.
Most single-sheet deck repairs in Fort Worth take 2 to 4 hours from first cut to final fastener, plus underlayment and shingle reinstatement. Full re-decks run 1 to 3 days depending on roof size and slope. Call (682) 730-3548 for a timeline specific to your roof.
Our Fort Worth crews run with Atlas WeatherMaster synthetic underlayment and 4×8 CDX plywood as standard truck stock, along with fasteners and H-clips. If you need a full re-deck with OSB or a specific plywood grade, we’ll have it delivered next day from our local supplier. Call (682) 730-3548 and we’ll confirm what we’re bringing before we arrive.
We install Atlas, GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed systems. We’re not tied to one brand, which means when we say an Atlas underlayment is the right call for your Fort Worth roof, it’s because it actually is, not because we get a stronger rebate. Call (682) 730-3548 to talk through your options.
