CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent systems across Fort Worth, with most complete installations running $425 to $775 for a standard single-family home. Same-week scheduling is typical, and we carry the common CertainTeed profiles on our trucks so there’s no second trip for parts. Most owners discover a problem the same way: water staining near a ceiling, granules piling in a gutter under the ridge, or a roofer pointing out that the vent strip has cracked and curled after a decade of Texas sun.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know which CertainTeed product you have, or at least you know something up top isn’t breathing the way it should. Ridge vent failure is rarely dramatic. It’s slow, and by the time it shows up inside the house, the fix usually means more than swapping the plastic strip itself.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed makes two ridge vent families that matter here: the Filtered Ridge Vent and the Certi-Ridge Rigid Vent. The Filtered version is a roll-out mat, typically 20 feet long, with a baffled internal filter that keeps wind-driven rain out. Certi-Ridge is different stuff entirely: rigid plastic sections, usually 4 feet each, with an external baffle design and an integrated weather filter. You don’t mix them. A house with Certi-Ridge installed will have visible overlap tabs at the joints. A Filtered vent looks like a single continuous black strip running the length of the ridge.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of Fort Worth homeowners: CertainTeed’s warranty language ties vent performance to shingle type. If the original roof used CertainTeed shingles with a matching ColorMax ridge cap system, swapping in a generic aftermarket vent can void the vent warranty, not the shingle warranty, but the vent’s own coverage. We stock OEM CertainTeed profiles on the truck alongside compatible aftermarket equivalents, and we’ll tell you honestly when the extra cost for OEM is worth it and when it isn’t. Usually, on a mid-2000s CertainTeed roof that’s already 18 years old, the aftermarket equivalent is the smarter money. On a 4-year-old roof still under manufacturer protection, we’d go OEM without hesitation.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Curled or wavy vent edges at the ridge line. This is UV degradation. The plastic loses its plasticizers after eight to twelve years of Fort Worth summers, and the edges start lifting away from the shingles. Water doesn’t need a big gap. A quarter-inch curl is enough for wind-driven rain to get under.
- Granules washing into gutters at the ridge ends. That’s not always shingle wear. When the vent’s edge lift lets water sit against the cut shingle edges at the ridge slot, the shingle edges erode faster there. You’ll notice heavier granule accumulation at the gutter ends nearest the ridge, not evenly spread.
- Water stains on the ceiling below the attic, especially after windblown rain. Flat, windless rain rarely gets past a working ridge vent. The failure shows up during Fort Worth’s spring storm line events, when rain is coming at an angle and pressure differentials push water through the baffles that should be blocking it.
- Attic temperature climbing in August. Ridge vents don’t fail all at once. As the filter mat clogs with dust, pollen, and blown insulation, airflow drops gradually. You notice it as an AC bill that creeps up year over year, or an upstairs that won’t hold temperature the way it used to.
- Visible cracks or missing sections after a hail event. Fort Worth hail doesn’t just dent shingles. It shatters rigid Certi-Ridge sections and leaves holes in Filtered vent mats. After any significant hailstorm, the ridge vent deserves the same inspection attention as the shingle field.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Fort Worth ranch or two-story with 40 to 60 linear feet of ridge, a full CertainTeed ridge vent replacement runs $425 to $775 installed. That includes tearing off the old vent, inspecting and replacing any rotted plywood at the ridge slot (usually 0 to 4 feet), installing the new vent, and re-securing or replacing the ridge cap shingles.
What drives the range:
- Vent type: Filtered mat runs lower, Certi-Ridge rigid sections run higher on both material and labor.
- Ridge cap condition: If the existing cap shingles can be re-used, you save $80 to $150. If they’re brittle and crack during removal, new cap shingles go on. We quote that possibility in writing before work starts so the number on the page is the number on the invoice.
- Ridge line length and roof pitch: Steeper roofs and longer ridges add labor time. A Fort Worth two-story with a 12/12 pitch is a different job than a 6/12 ranch.
Every ridge vent install includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, at no extra cost. If our work fails within a year, we return and correct it free. No negotiation. No second invoice.

What you can safely do yourself: get in the attic on a sunny day and look along the ridge slot for daylight gaps, shifted filter media, or water staining on the sheathing. That inspection costs you nothing and tells us a lot before we even climb up. What you should not do: pull the old vent and caulk or tape over gaps as a stopgap. Every homeowner fix we’ve seen on a failing ridge vent has either blocked the airflow the vent exists to provide, or created a dam that backs water up under the shingles. Neither one is a situation you want multiplying through a Texas storm season.
The work itself isn’t something we’d call technically hard for someone who knows roofs, but it’s at the top of the roof, on the ridge line, and that’s where fall risk lives. If you’d rather not spend a Saturday on a ladder with a nail gun in the classic Fort Worth August heat wave, call (682) 730-3548 and we’ll get someone out to look.
FAQs
In North Texas, expect 12 to 18 years from a CertainTeed ridge vent before UV degradation and filter clogging make replacement the smart move. The shingles around it may or may not outlast the vent, and that matters when you’re deciding whether to replace the vent alone or fold it into a roof replacement. If your roof is past 15 years old, replacing just the vent usually means paying twice for the same ridge work within a few years.
Small issues can sometimes be repaired: a single cracked Certi-Ridge section swapping out cleanly, a two-foot section of lifted Filtered vent re-fastened, that sort of thing. If the failure is widespread, if the plastic has gone brittle across the run, or if water has already rotted the ridge sheathing, repair buys you time but not much of it. Call (682) 730-3548 and we’ll tell you straight which situation you’re in.
A standard Ridge vent installation on a Fort Worth single-family home takes one day, usually four to six hours on site. The variable is the condition of the plywood at the ridge slot. If we’re replacing rotted sheathing, that adds time. We send before-and-after photos and a digital invoice by text so you can see exactly what was done from the ground.
We keep the common CertainTeed profiles on the truck: Filtered Ridge Vent rolls and Certi-Ridge rigid sections, plus the compatible caps and fasteners. For unusual lengths or colors of Certi-Ridge, supply houses in Fort Worth usually have it next day. GAF and Owens Corning ridge vents are on the truck, too, for homes that came with a different shingle lineup.
