Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We install Owens Corning ridge vent systems in Fort Worth, and most full replacements run between $450 and $900 installed, depending on roof length and vent type. We stock Owens Corning VentSure and ShingleVent II components on the truck, so a standard swap is usually done in one visit. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: they climb up to hang holiday lights or pull a tennis ball out of a gutter, and there it is – a cracked plastic vent cover, a rusted nail line, or a section that’s separated from the shingles and flapping in the wind.

Ridge vents are the exhaust half of your attic’s cooling system. Owens Corning makes several models, and when they fail, the attic stops breathing. In a Fort Worth August, that means heat builds until your AC works overtime and your shingles bake from both sides. This page covers which vents we install, what they cost, what fails first, and whether you can patch it or should replace it. Dylan Pace and our crew have been installing Owens Corning ridge vents across Fort Worth for years, including a run of replacements near the Cultural District where one street had five identical failures from a single bad batch of plastic that couldn’t take the UV exposure.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To
We install the two Owens Corning ridge vent lines most common on Fort Worth roofs: VentSure and ShingleVent II. Both are 4-foot sections of black polypropylene with a nailable flange and an external baffle system that deflects wind over the opening instead of into it. The difference matters more than most roofers let on.
VentSure comes in two profiles: the standard 9-inch and a low-profile 11-inch for steep-pitch applications. The ShingleVent II is a rigid matrix design with a built-in end cap and filter strip, and it’s the one we recommend when homeowners want a higher net-free area per linear foot – 18 square inches per foot versus the VentSure’s 14. If you’re not sure which one you have, look at the underside of any exposed section. The product name is printed on the inside channel, along with the manufacturing date code. The date code starts with a number for the year and a letter for the month. If your vent was made before 2011, it’s almost certainly the first-generation VentSure, which had a thinner baffle wall we now replace with the current spec.
OEM versus aftermarket is a real decision here. There are generic ridge vents at the supply houses for $35 a section that look close enough. They’re not. Owens Corning ridges are engineered to sit flush with Owens Corning shingles in a way generics don’t, and the nail slots are positioned on a different center. A mismatched vent is a leak waiting for the first hard Texas storm. We stock OEM Owens Corning components and use them unless a specific older vent is discontinued – in which case we quote the current compatible model in writing before anything gets touched.
We’re an independent service provider and not affiliated with Owens Corning. That said, we install their ridge vents constantly because Fort Worth roofers have trusted the brand since before the current ShingleVent II came out, and the material quality holds up in our UV and hail conditions.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Cracked or curling vent cap sections. Fort Worth gets 230+ days of sun. After 8 to 12 years, the UV breaks down the polypropylene and the top cap gets brittle, then cracks at the screw line. Water gets in during a storm and drains straight into the attic.
- Shingles lifting around the vent line. Ridge vents are nailed through the shingle profile, and if the installer didn’t get the nail into the vent flange properly, the shingles lose their anchor point. Wind peels them back. We fix this constantly on re-roofs done by pressure-washed crews that rush the final run.
- Granules piling up in gutters at the ridge end. This usually means the vent’s external baffle is breaking down and shingles at the ridge are shedding with it. Granule loss at the ridge is different from general roof aging – it’s local and aggressive.
- Attic temperature climbing higher than usual after a storm. Hail impacts crack vent sections without knocking them off. The attic looks fine from the ground, but the exhaust path is compromised. We find this all the time after Fort Worth’s spring hail season.
- A whistling sound at the ridge during high wind. This is the external baffle vibrating against the nail flange after the plastic has warped. It’s annoying, and it tells you the vent profile has deformed enough that the nail line is working loose.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, a full Owens Corning ridge vent replacement runs $450 to $900 installed for most homes. That price covers removing the old vent, inspecting the roof deck at the ridge opening, installing the new Owens Corning vent with manufacturer-spec fasteners, re-seating the shingles on both sides, and a written workmanship warranty.
What drives the range:
- Linear feet of ridge. A standard single-story in Fort Worth’s Valley View area might have 30 linear feet. A two-story in Southlake could run 60. Every section is 4 feet, so the math is fast.
- Deck condition at the ridge. If water’s been getting in through a failed vent, the osb underneath may be soft. We’ll show you a photo and quote the repair before we do it – that’s the Relay Visibility Guarantee, and we don’t skip that step.
- Vent model. ShingleVent II runs about $2 more per linear foot than VentSure. We write both prices out so there’s no surprise.
You get a written price before any work starts. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. And every repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise – if that vent fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Put it in writing or don’t bother saying it.
DIY or Call Us?
Ridge vent replacement involves nail lines directly into your roof deck, and it’s on the ridge of a sloped structure. Falling from a one-story ridge line in Fort Worth is a quick way to a broken hip or worse. We don’t recommend DIY for this part, and we’ll say that even though it costs us a few do-it-yourselfers.
What you can safely check from a ladder or the ground: visible cracks on the vent cap, lifted shingles at the ridge, and granules washing down the valleys. If you see those, call us at (682) 730-3548 and describe what you see. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed tech with a live arrival time you can track. You’ll know who’s coming and when before the truck pulls up.
The DIY failure we see most often on rigs people attempt at home: they use regular roofing nails instead of the Owens Corning spec ring-shank nails, and the vent pulls up in the first windstorm. That’s a $6 mistake that turns into a $700 repair. If the shingles are loose around the vent, the roof deck is already compromised and you want a professional looking at it anyway.
FAQs
Owens Corning ridge vents last 10 to 15 years in Fort Worth’s UV and hail conditions, though plastic degradation usually starts around year 8. We start watching them closely on re-roofs once the accessory has hit a decade. Call (682) 730-3548 and we’ll take a look – estimates are free.
A single cracked section can sometimes be patched if the crack is small and away from the nail line, but we generally recommend replacing at least that 4-foot section. Patching plastic in full sun rarely holds beyond a season or two. The cleanest fix is a new section, and the cost difference is modest. We’ll quote both options so you can choose.
Most Owens Corning ridge vent replacements take 2 to 4 hours on a standard Fort Worth roof. The work includes removal, deck inspection, new vent installation, and shingle re-seating. You’ll get before and after photos plus a digital invoice by text when we’re done – that’s The Relay Standard.
Yes, we stock VentSure and ShingleVent II sections on our service trucks. We also carry ridge caps for GAF and CertainTeed vent systems for mixed-brand homes. If your ridge length exceeds what’s on the truck, we’ll have the rest by the next visit. Call (682) 730-3548 to schedule a free estimate.
